Adding to the series of excellent golf courses in the Limousin, the new 9-hole course at Mortemart opened in 2008. Competing with the better known Porcelain and St Lazare at Limoges and Golf de St Junien, Golf de Mortemart is set amongst some of the most stunning scenery of the region Les Pays des Monts de Blond and offers 2,902 metres of challenging play with a course par of 36. |

HOLE 1 : SSS 7/8 - Par 4 326m white, 298m yellow, 269m blue, 161m red.
From the elevated tee you have a daunting shot over a stream, between a narrow opening in the trees to the dog-leg fairway. The bold player will carry the trees for extra length but beware of the left-hand side as a small lake and long rough are waiting to catch your drive. The green is approached over a slight rise, with a bunker awaiting you on the other side. Two further deep bunkers sit to the left of the large green. HOLE 2 : SSS 3/4 - Par 3 186m white, 186m yellow, 160m blue, 150m red A very hard par 3 from the tee. You have an uphill shot. There are 3 bunkers guarding the green, one pot hole bunker on line of flight, one just right of green entrance, and a large one to the left of the green. This is the most challenging tee shot on the course which plays its length. But just to make it harder there's a large oak tree to the right of the fairway with overhanging branches which many of the members threaten to get the chainsaw to after dark! This hole plays hard and if you come off with 4 its normal, and 3 in your heaven! HOLE 3 : SSS 1 - Par 5 485m white, 453m yellow, 418m blue, 412m red The first two holes may be testing but the third is certainly the most challenging. The tees are situated at the side of the lake with oak trees on the left. There is a large fairway beckoning, but it slopes to the right for its entire length with a wood and out of bounds to the right. To play smart your drive needs to be on the left-hand side of the fairway, but even that has a slight ball below feet stance (right-hand player) so watch out for the fade or slice as the woods are waiting! Two very good shots will get you to the 450 meters, then the green comes into view as it's at 90 degrees right after the wood. A small wedge to a large elongated green with some interesting borrows, this hole is a genuine par 5 and you will have to play some good shots to get it. HOLE 4 : SSS 15/16 - Par 4 267m white, 260m yellow,226m blue, 191m red After the last three testing holes, Hole 4 by comparison is quite straight forward. From the tee a generous fairway to hit; bunker at about 130 meters, long rough to the right (to catch the slice). The green is shielded by a large hump which needs to be carried. At the edge of the hump (left) is a bunker waiting to catch the short shot. Basically a nice straight shot and 9 or wedge pitching to the green makes this perhaps one of the easiest holes on the course.

HOLE 5 : SSS 17/18 - Par 3 129m white, 118m yellow, 110m blue, 86m red Short par 3 with the bunkers either side of the entrance
to the green. From the tee it does not look far,
5th Green HOLE 6 : SSS 13/14 - Par 4 303m white, 265m yellow, 238m blue, 231m red Very straight hole with 3 bunkers on the right-hand side and long rough on the left. The green is long and narrow with a bunker on the right and a large, 'difficult to spot' bunker at the front. HOLE 7 : SSS 9/10 - Par 5 446m white, 409m yellow, 378m blue, 371m red Excellent par 5. From the tee you play over a
slight rise and a bunker to a generous fairway. For your second
shot you will need to thread it through the
7th fairway HOLE 8 :SSS 11/12 - Par 4 288m white, 246m yellow, 217m blue, 209m red Not a long par 4, but left and right of fairway trouble beckons. From the tee the first thing one sees is a bank running the entire width of the fairway with a very large bunker carved into it. The green is elevated and protected by a large bunker just waiting for the short shot. The green slopes to its entire width right to left and don't be deceived by it's generous appearance from the fairway, as it's in fact very narrow ranging from about 5 metres on the left to 18 metres to the right. HOLE 9 : SSS 5/4 Par 4 353m white, 345m yellow, 273m blue, 235m red From a slightly elevated tee the fairway doglegs around a lake. On the
left-hand side before the lake is a large oak tree
